m-1Up to 80 cars have been set alight across Sweden, in what is believed to have been a coordinated attack.

The vehicles targeted were set ablaze in a number of different cities across the Scandinavian country. The arsonists were youths, wearing all black and with their faces hidden. Swedish PM, Stefan Lofven , said: “It looks like very coordinated, almost like a military operation.”

Speaking on Swedish Radio, Prime Minister Lofven addressed the attackers, simply asking: “What the hell are you doing?”

Among the cities experiencing the attacks were Gothenburg, Stockholm, Trollhattan and Falkenberg. Gothenburg was targeted particularly heavily, with the majority of the torched vehicles located there.

The motives behind the arson are currently unclear. The youths, black clad and wearing masks, smashed car windows before pouring flammable liquid into the interiors and setting them ablaze.

This is not the first time Sweden has experienced these sort of attacks. In 2013, many vehicles were set ablaze during riots. The unrest was thought to be a protest about the widening gap between rich and poor, particularly in immigrant communities.
